This week is National School Choice Week. All across America, people are celebrating the advances that we have made on creating more school options for students and families. Even though you might not find big rallies and parades making much of this fact, don’t forget that Chicago is a school choice city.
The city is home to 130 public charter school campuses and 403 private schools (not to mention a number of district-run options like magnet schools, selective enrollment schools, and a group of neighborhood schools that are on the rise). An increasing number of families are deciding to homeschool in the city. Chicago is celebrating School Choice Week in a very Chicago way. No nonsense, no fanfare. Just big shoulders and hard work. Every day this week, almost 60,000 children will walk into the doors of charter schools Chicago and over 75,000 will get up and go a private school.
That’s a school choice celebration…the Chicago way. Happy #SchoolChoiceWeek.
P.S. Here’s a link to other activities that are taking place throughout the state of Illinois.
