Vic Mensa Is Looking Out for Our Kids Better Than the Police

This weekend, he hosted the Anti-Bait Truck event in West Englewood in response to the Chicago Police Department (CPD) and Norfolk Southern’s attempt to bait people in that community into stealing gym shoes.

A native Chicagoan and CPS alum, Vic has always been all about his city. He’s been a voice for more therapists in schools. His nonprofit organization, SaveMoneySaveLives, helps kids in Chicago combat and cope with violence-induced trauma. And his theory of change is a simple one—improve schools in the city and violence will decrease.

Now while Vic has always been about the kids and community, the same can’t be said for Norfolk Southern and CPD.

This bait truck foolishness was clearly an attempt to entrap people—Black people to be more specific. And while the kids Vic is trying to save are barely surviving the streets, CPD and Norfolk Southern are adding to the problem to by trying to send them to jail.

And, you would think that CPD would be busy trying to work on their homicide clearance rates instead of setting people up to steal shoes. Smh!

Nonetheless, this is indicative of who’s trying to save the community and who’s trying to destroy it. And if CPD and Norfolk Southern really want to work on their community relations—as they mentioned in their weak apology statement—maybe they need to consult with Vic Mensa.
