This virtual workshop helps high-school teachers understand how to help their students write and read sophisticated editorials in the 21st century. You may attend on either Saturday, March 20 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., or on Wednesday March 24, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. To register, click here.
With no more than 24 other teachers, participants will learn guiding principles to help young adults think insightfully and logically as well as use emotion responsibly in opinion writing.
Instructional approaches covered include the following topics:
–Using narrative as evidence
–Developing sophisticated arguments
–Addressing an authentic audience with an essay form far beyond the rudimentary five-paragraph essay
–Providing feedback and grading efficiently
Besides these understandings, participants will walk away with some classroom-ready resources that promote enduring lessons about writing authentically.
This is not just for English teachers. Any content-area teacher who wants to incorporate more writing into her / his / their classroom will benefit.
Participants can choose from Saturday, March 20 OR Wednesday, March 24.
Since 1995, Ray Salazar has been a public school English teacher in Chicago. Ray earned an M.A. in Writing, with distinction, and a B.A. in English and Secondary Education from DePaul University. He’s been a National Board Certified Teacher since 2009.
