Chicago and the nation applauded when Mayor Lori Lightfoot persuaded Comcast to double the speed of Internet for low-income families and also offered “60 free days of Internet to any low-income family.”
But there was a catch. Families who owe Comcast money or had applied for service in the past and ran into payment problems are not eligible. In other worse, families who are in serious financial trouble can’t get Internet for their kids to do schoolwork, as this article from San Antonio illustrates.
So what can we do? Besides putting a meme of our mayor atop a Comcast office? Easy–sign this petition!
